About Our Organization
Welcome
The Mississippi Archaeological Association is an organization of professional archaeologists
and lay people actively involved with archaeology and archaeological preservation, uniting in a common effort to understand the prehistory and history of Mississippi and the surrounding region. Anyone who has a sincere interest in the cultural heritage of the state and is dedicated to the preservation of that heritage for all to enjoy is eligible for membership. The Association
has as one of its important objectives the mission of encouraging scientific archaeological investigations and supports the dissemination to the public of information from these investigations in its publications, which are received by its members as a benefit of membership.
Our Mission As Defined In The Mississippi Archaeological Association's Constitution (2022):
Article II: Purpose
This organization is formed for the purpose of uniting all persons interested in the
archaeology of Mississippi; for the study and preservation of Indian prehistory and
history; and for fostering and encouraging a constructive public attitude toward the
archaeology of the state.
Said organization is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and
scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to
organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
It is further the purpose of this Association to encourage and participate in scientific
investigation, study, and interpretation of prehistoric and historic artifacts and sites, and
to publish and distribute the results of these investigations, particularly those relating to
Mississippi.
