2026 Joint Annual Meeting of the Mississippi Archaeological Association and Alabama Archaeological Society

The 2026 MAA/AAS joint annual meeting will be held in Meridian, Mississippi from Friday, January 30, until Sunday, February 1, 2026. There will be an informal reception on Friday evening from 6:30-8:00pm at Threefoot Brewing, 517 23rd Avenue. From 8:30am until 4:25pm Saturday, join us at the historic Temple Theatre Ballroom where there will be papers given by avocational, professional, and student archaeologists. Papers will be 15 minutes each, and the room will be equipped with a computer and a projector for Powerpoint presentations. If you would like to present, please CLICK HERE to submit your paper by January 16, 2026. We will also have a silent auction and artifact displays as well as representatives from the University Press of Mississippi and the University of Alabama Press with books for sale.

On Saturday evening at 6:30pm we will have a catered reception and a keynote address in the Temple Theatre Ballroom.  Dr. Vernon James Knight, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and former Curator of Southeastern Archaeology at the University of Alabama, will be the featured speaker.  The registration fee covers general meeting attendance as well as admittance to the catered reception/keynote. 

On Sunday morning, from 9:30am-noon, James Starnes (MDEQ) will give a guided tour of the Allen Creek Tallahatta Quartize Quarry near Meridian. Meet at 9:15am in the lobby of the Threefoot Hotel to carpool to the site.  Please make plans to join us for this exciting event!
